Skidmore Parents Program

Parent Philanthropy at Skidmore College

Skidmore is deeply grateful for family support. For more than a century, Skidmore families have played a central role in the college's success, supporting initiatives that have transformed the educational experience of Skidmore students, and propelled Skidmore into the ranks of the country's elite liberal arts colleges.

Family Leadership Giving

In the last decade alone, more than 3,000 families have contributed well over $100 million in support of campus projects. These acts of generosity have greatly enhanced facilities, financial aid, curriculum, student life and more. This powerful example of philanthropy demonstrates the importance of giving back to the college and the role each member of the community has in the continued growth and success of the institution.

Skidmore's tuition and fees cover only part of the annual investment Skidmore makes in the education of each and every student. Why be part of Skidmore's Family Leadership Giving?

  • Gifts from generations of parents and families make up the difference and truly sustains Skidmore as a world-class liberal arts college.
  • Your own gift benefits your student—and every other Skidmore student!

We are deeply grateful to the many thousands of families who have not only sent their sons and daughters to Skidmore, but who have also joined in making the College one of the finest in the country.

Thank you for your support.

Annual Parents Fund

The Skidmore Parents Fund provides vital support to the college. Every dollar is put to immediate use to ensure that Skidmore is able to attract a highly qualified and diverse student body, recruit and retain the best faculty and provide and maintain the best facilities possible for academics, the arts and athletics. Last year, parents made gifts to the Skidmore Fund and operating budget totaling nearly $1.8 million to support everything from scholarships to capital projects.

Gifts to the Annual Parents Fund supports Skidmore's operating budget for things such as:

  • Academic initiatives
  • Faculty support
  • Scholarships
  • Internship funding
  • Student life programs
  • Intercultural and diversity initiative
  • Campus facilities and classroom enhancements
  • Athletics
  • The Tang Museum

Class of 2024 and Class of 2025 Parents Fund

The focus of the Class of 2024 and Class of 2025 Parents Funds will be Skidmore's Summer Funded Internship Awards Program. Through support of this program, you will be helping Skidmore provide financial resources for students who wish to strengthen their academic experience with real-world internship experience.

Internships in business, museums, hospitals and community organizations across the county and around the world not only deepens students’ knowledge, but also help them transition to life beyond college. Skidmore's rich tradition of combining theoretical with practical learning ("mind and hand") has been a hallmark of the Skidmore student experience, an experience that is evident today in Skidmore's vibrant internship program. Skidmore wants to encourage more students to complete internships by removing some of the financial barriers preventing students from taking what are normally unpaid summer internships.

Investing in this program will help ensure that it becomes a permanent part of the Skidmore experience and that all students have a chance to participate in at least one of these career-enhancing opportunities.
